The median age of Syria is 22 years old

Syria has just over 500,000 more men than women in its whole population

90% of the Syrian population is Arabic

Geography

Syria is roughly the land of Florida as it covers 71,498 square miles of land, the average temperature during the summer is 100 degrees

Economic Resources

Syria imports: heavy machinery, vehicles, and petroleum products

Syria exports: oil, fruits, vegetables, wheat, clothing, meat, and animals

Most Syrian families work 2 or 3 jobs for essential things

The GDP in Syria is 59.4 billion, the GDP in the states is 14.59 trillion, you can tell that Syria does not make a lot of money (similar to China) as they work many jobs and produce common goods

Political structure

The Syrian government is broken down into 14 provinces and a president who controls everything, you can assume that they try to spread out and focus on problems based on the location


The voting age in Syria is 18, anyone over this age is eligible to vote

Syria holds an election every 7 years (the last election was in 2007 meaning the next one will be in 2014)

Who Revolted?

The first person who revolted was a guy named Hasan Ali Akleh on January 26, 2011. Hasan poured gasoline on himself then lit himself on fire.

political activist were imprisoned and people protested which led to more arrest in 2010
in 1970 hafez al assad took power and he died in 2000. his son bashar took power and they both used terror and force
in 2012 the city of homs was attacked by syrian forces because of protesting. The government prevented any aid from reaching the citizens.
2005 a car bombing killed Rafiq Hariri and the lebanese thought the syrians were responsible
Negotiations between Israel and Syria have been suspended since 2000
